The value of art.. I think the intrinsic value of art is the way it responds to the world in which it is made. Art has the ability to communicate something about a time and place and can evoke emotion and share both ideas and perceptions. Art is an ongoing conversation that describes a culture.
My passions.. I’m currently reading Modern Love - The Lives of John & Sunday Reed by Lesley Harding & Kendrah Morgan. It’s a fascinating and very close account of the lives of John and Sunday and the inner circle at Heide.
I’ve been listening to the music of Cigarettes After Sex (an American pop band ) because this reminds me of travelling in Italy with my partner and 2 sons in 2018
I’ve also been listening to George Michael, the Teskey Brothers, Yes, Gang of Youths and Kiwanuka - an English singer-songwriter sent from my step-daughter in Brisbane.
Horses have become a very significant part of my life throughout the last seventeen years. I rode as a child then stopped when I started University. Unfortunately I lost one of my horses to Colic last year but I’m currently schooling a Clydie / Thoroughbred gelding. I’m a member of an Adult riding club and appreciate working with a number of different instructors - and attending dressage clinics - there is no end to what we can learn as riders and of course horses have an incredible ability to teach us if we are prepared to listen.
I have also had a life-long passion for architecture, film and photography - I taught design and composition in a photography college for many years - I particularly enjoy experimenting with alternative photographic processes.
Places I dream of.. One of my sons is based in Europe so I’m particularly looking forward to jumping on an aeroplane.
I hope.. We all come out of this global pandemic as better versions of ourselves.
