Emma Itzstein
The Push for Inclusivity and Representation
Emma Itzstein emphasises the importance of making space for all artists—female, male, and non-binary—in the commercial art world. While she feels that progress has been made, especially in the representation of female artists in galleries and exhibitions, she calls for more institutional support, particularly for caregivers and mothers. "More funded residencies that cater to primary caregivers would allow a wider array of voices to be heard," she states. “It would be great to see more funded residencies cater to mothers, or primary caregivers in general by offering shorter term, 2-week residencies for example, with options to bring the whole family over school holidays etc.” Emma’s advocacy for greater inclusivity highlights the need for the art world to evolve to support the diverse realities of its artists.
