Masja, from Marie Bernard
Materiality and Playfulness
Masja draws inspiration from artists like Sheila Hicks and Faye Toogood, whose work is defined by materiality, colour, and playfulness. "Their use of tactile materials resonates with me," Masja says. For her, the ability to switch between different mediums with ease and confidence is a source of artistic freedom. She encourages female artists to find and embrace their authentic voices, even in the face of a crowded artistic world. "Don’t get distracted, keep working, and don’t get discouraged," she advises. "Art takes time to come to fruition, but persistence is key. Besides of a couple of teachers at art school, the people who will teach you the most are your fellow students and colleagues.”
