Gender and the Artistic Journey
Helen Redmond acknowledges that gender undeniably shapes an artist's worldview and their creative journey. "Being female has shaped my view of the world," she shares, reflecting on the ways in which gender influences opportunities afforded and denied. While her practice may not be overtly ‘feminine,’ it is undeniably infused with the intuition and perspective unique to her experience as a woman. For Helen, the act of creation is inseparable from identity, and this influence is visible in every stroke of her work, "I think everything an artist creates is inevitably influenced by who and what they are - race, religion and values, as well as gender".
