Bold and Expressive Self-Portraits

Jenny Lundgren’s early fascination with the works of Helene Schjerfbeck (Finland 1862-1946), especially her later self-portraits, left a profound impact. "Her bold, expressive self-portraits sparked my curiosity about what painting can be and mean," Jenny recalls. Schjerfbeck's ability to convey deep emotion and vulnerability through her minimalist style encouraged Jenny to pursue her own artistic journey and to search for her personal expression within painting, “I would say that encountering her work played a role in my own decision to start painting seriously and searching for my own expression within painting”.
