Anna van der Ploeg's Hazendal Commission
-
“Walls, floors laid, electrics, in-built furniture - painting long days and nights as the space became itself. The final painting is a difficult thing to get an angle on. The ceiling is just too close to photograph in one go, and too big to take in standing only in one position. I painted as it is to be viewed, looking up, working my way around.”
Congratulations Anna on a commission of remarkable scale and sensitivity, and on a work that so thoughtfully responds to its architecture, inviting viewers into a contemplative experience that can only be fully understood in situ.
“More to come but for now, my thanks to Hazendal for the extraordinary opportunity; to the hotel team for their hospitality; and to Heinrich and Shona of Reservoir for their support throughout. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.”
