Sophia Szilagyi's latest collection of round works at Otomys offers a profound exploration of the concept of home. Drawing from her experiences, from the serene canopies of her garden to the icy Victorian oceans, Szilagyi compresses time and space into captivating visual narratives. Her new body of work act as portals, bridging past and present, darkness and light, to evoke a rich tapestry of both memory and perception. Portale invites viewers to traverse the boundaries of their own experiences through Szilagyi’s evocative and introspective art.
"When invited to take part in a show I was asked to consider what home meant to me. After much contemplation I realised it was not just one thing, it was many. The shifting dappled light from the canopy of the Jacaranda and Casurina in my back garden. The icy Victorian oceans I swim in. The dramatic afternoon skies across Melbourne. The warm shadows of afternoon light. Distant memories of the Finnish landscape. Memories are continuous, concrete, felt and visualised.
