Macquarie Group acquires painting by contemporary artist Meg Walters

We are delighted to share that 'Waxing and Waning, The Tide Peels Away from the Shore' by Meg Walters has been acquired by the Macquarie Group Collection.

Since 1987, the Macquarie Group Collection has supported and celebrated contemporary Australian and New Zealand artists through one of the country’s most respected corporate collections. Comprising over 900 original, non-commissioned works, the Macquarie Group Collection is displayed throughout Macquarie’s global offices and in The Art Space at 1 Elizabeth Street, Sydney - a publicly accessible exhibition space that highlights the vibrancy and diversity of contemporary practice.

'Waxing and Waning, The Tide Peels Away from the Shore' by Meg Walters speaks to themes of place, memory, and transformation - qualities that resonate strongly with the focus of the Macquarie Group Collection; to acquire works that reflect the artist’s unique perspective and cultural context.

Of the work, Meg Walters shares:
"Incorporating land as metaphor into my paintings has been a natural exploration of my interpretation of past and current experiences. Portals within landscapes act as gateways between worlds, how we're all able to somehow exist constantly travelling between physical, psychological and emotional states of being. Originally from Bermuda, a part of me exists there, yet also simultaneously here in Australia. As a mother, I've learned to hold multiple versions of myself inside of me all at once. The natural limestone arch in 'Waxing and Waning, The Tide Peels Away from the Shore' honours the changes and progressions of the natural world and also those inside of us as we continue to grow and evolve.

This acquisition celebrates Meg Walters’ nuanced approach to personal and collective identity and ensures her work will be encountered by a broad and engaged audience both within The Macquarie Group global network and through its public-facing exhibition programs.
