Light & Legacy with Polly Gilroy

News
New Zealand artist, Polly Gilroy has had a strong year following her participation in a group exhibition in Wellington earlier in 2025. She has since been invited to present solo exhibitions at two galleries: Hutch, a new space in the South Island, and the well-established McLeavey Gallery in the North Island.

Her upcoming exhibition, Between the Lines, opens 22 August at Hutch will explore light and shifting colours. This will be followed byTo a Shadow’s Edge at McLeavey, opening 1 November, which will feature site-specific works responding to the gallery’s unique architecture and rich history.

Polly notes the significance of exhibiting at McLeavey, given the profound legacy of Olivia and her father Peter McLeavey, a pioneering figure in the New Zealand art scene since the 1960s. Between these two solo shows, Polly has also been invited to contribute to a group exhibition in Nelson this October. Looking ahead, she is preparing a large work for ZAWAA (Women Art Awards) later this year, and has a solo exhibition scheduled at PG Gallery192 for mid-2026.
