Colour shapes mood, evokes eras, and carries a quiet sense of escapism. Created following a period of studying The Anatomy of Colour by Patrick Baty, these works emerged from a deeper consideration of pigment, history, and the language of paint itself. Developed alongside works made for the 2025 exhibition Still Point, they reflect an attentive dialogue between surface and story.

Paint names and finishes anchor each composition, linking palette to time and memory. The golden hush of an autumn morning settles in Cedar & Olive; the forest floor blooms softly in Pink Violet Forest. Porcelain blues and gilded whispers echo through Royal Worcester, while Vesta holds a tender, hearth-like glow. The sheen of early 20th-century varnish glimmers in Jap-A-Lac, and the poised restraint of Art Deco refinement lingers in Émile-Jacques.

Together, the paintings form a quiet constellation, each square a suspended moment of stillness and tone.

Grounded One, Two and Three are works that do not rush. They hold stillness, warmth, and the quiet assurance of being anchored. The geometric composition provides a measured structure, while the colour palette moves softly across the surface. Warm hues rest against the untouched linen, creating a subtle dialogue between form and openness.

They speak of being grounded, yet open to possibility, rooted but never closed.
