Simone Boon: Solo Exhibition

In Chroma, Simone Boon figures a spectrum of colour and experience. Recalling sense impressions from a past spent travelling between far-flung places, her photographic compositions express a painterly attention to tone, form and feeling. Here, duration is distilled in a single image through the movement of her model and the camera's slow shutter speed. Traced over brief intervals, gestures dissolve into fluid abstraction. Many of Boon's photographs are exposed for less than a second, recording only the briefest transition. Yet to the artist, the resulting pictorial tension - between revealing and concealing her shifting subject - evokes both the essential indeterminacy of being and a sense of the continuous present, of life unfolding across time and space.

Boon's photographic arrangements quietly evade the descriptive, static function of her medium, lending her images a filmic expression of temporal passage and transformation that privileges suggestion over statement. In this exhibition, the artist pairs her dynamic, saturated frames with more muted compositions, exploring shades of sensation in chromatic subtleties and the emotive register of her model's fluent physicality. Composed with choreography and chance, these collected works picture life's variable hues and sustained flux, as transcribed first in dance and later as image.
