Simone Boon Returns to Venice: Personal Structures 2026, Confluences

News
Otomys is pleased to announce that Dutch artist Simone Boon will return to Venice this May, exhibiting at Personal Structures 2026: Confluences - the highly regarded international contemporary art exhibition presented by the European Cultural Centre Italy, held in dialogue with the Venice Art Biennale 2026.

This marks Boon’s second participation in Personal Structures, a distinction that speaks to the sustained critical recognition her practice has earned on the global stage and to Otomys' ongoing commitment to supporting Australian and international artists at the highest levels of contemporary art.

Confluences can be descried as the meeting of rivers, the emergence of new currents. This is a theme that finds its natural counterpart in Boon’s work.

Grounded in the philosophy of becoming, Simone Boon is a contemporary photographer whose images resist the frozen moment inherent to the photographic medium. Working with slow shutter speeds, deliberate light, and figures draped in layered, weighted fabric, she renders movement, transformation and the passage of time within a single still frame. Her work interrogates female identity across cultural boundaries, drawing on the philosophy of Henri Bergson and Søren Kierkegaard to explore the idea that identity is never fixed - only ever in transition.

To exhibit under the theme of Confluences, in one of the world's most storied cultural cities, is a profound alignment of practice and place.
