Otomys is proud to present Vantage Point - a group exhibition bringing together seven artists in Paddington, Sydney from 15 - 25 October 2026.
Seven artists, seven vantage points, one room - close enough to compare, distinct enough to hold their own. Vantage Point is the second exhibition in the Otomys In Residence programme, following Still Point at Villa Alba Museum in 2025.
152 - 154 Jersey Road, Paddington, Sydney, 2021

OTOMYS: What was your intention behind the work in Vantage Point?
Hermentaire: I wanted to explore how a place stays with you and slowly becomes internal. These works came out of time in the Cyclades, but I’m not painting specific landscapes. I’m interested in what remains afterwards: fragments of memory, atmosphere, emotion and mostly imagination. The figures and the landscapes began to feel connected, as if one could become the other.
OTOMYS: Have you noticed any subtle or significant shifts in your practice whilst creating this body of work?
Hermentaire: Definitely. The most obvious change was the colour. I started using a brighter and more vivid palette, which came quite naturally from the light and atmosphere in Greece, especially in Spring. I noticed my figures and landscapes began to merge more in these paintings. I’m less interested now in separating what is inside from what is outside.
OTOMYS: What does Vantage Point mean to you now, and how has your thinking around it developed?
Hermentaire: For me, Vantage Point is really about the idea that we never see from a neutral position. What we see is always shaped by where we are, what we remember and how we feel. In my own work, I think a lot about that movement between an actual place and the version of it that stays inside you. Over time, the landscape becomes less about where it is and more about what it has built up in your memory.
