Helen Redmond in Conversation on Australian Women Artist's Podcast

Podcast

Australian Women Artists is a podcast dedicated to conversations with women working across the country’s art scene. In Episode 91, Otomys artist, Helen Redmond, talks about the unexpected path that led her to painting.

Helen grew up on a rural property in southern Queensland and trained in journalism and interior design. She then spent 25 years at Vogue Living as a stylist, Interiors Editor and Senior Editor, including many years as Melbourne Editor. Mid-career, she left publishing to study at the National Art School in Sydney.

Her paintings depict architectural spaces and the light that falls within them, built up through the slow layering of translucent oil glazes. Inspired by architects and by the Japanese concept of ma, which she discusses in the episode, her work has been described as an invitation to stillness.

Helen is currently showing in the group exhibition ,Vantage Point, at 152 Jersey Road, Paddington, until 25 October.
