Sophia Szilagyi Residency at The Baldessin Studio

Sophia Szilagyi has recently spent several months at Baldessin Studio mastering the traditional craft of printmaking. Baldessin Studio in regional Victoria is a 1970’s quintessentially Australian bluestone building, designed and built by George Baldessin. It is peaceful and sufficiently removed from the distractions of everyday life to support the exploration of technique. For over 21 years, this studio has witnessed the development of some of this country’s finest printmakers.

"I come from a traditional print making background and have built my knowledge and visual language over decades of experience. In the past few years digital print making has become a core part of this language, however, The Baldessin studio allowed me to reconnect with my roots and manual printmaking,” explains the artist.
