Morgan Shimeld is a regarded Australian sculptor who adopts a creative and meditative approach in his practice. He works intuitively, finding a natural sense of balance, strength and elegance in his work.

Working from his studio in the Blue Mountains of Australia, Morgan is primarily concerned with the sophisticated arrangement of abstract minimalist forms. His sculptures are typically characterised by a precise attention to structure and form; holding a powerful presence while maintaining a subtle quality of understated elegance.

Morgan’s highly technical and precisely refined artwork comprises a seamless blend of cast, welded and fabricated bronze and steel. His goal is to immerse the audience in the space between themselves and the object, which he achieves by taking guidance from the art movements of Minimalism, Formalism and Geometric Abstraction.

“I am moved to create sculptures that have clean edges and either a simple or complex geometric form, while maintaining a sense of balance and grounding,” says Morgan of his artwork.

“When I am in the studio making new work, it is always an intuitive, contemplative process of addition, subtraction, reduction and arrangement.”

Morgan graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Visual Arts in 2000. Since then, he has accumulated an impressive portfolio of solo exhibitions and group shows throughout New South Wales and across Australia.

In this time, Morgan has been a finalist in numerous prestigious art prizes, including (but not limited to) the Montalto Sculpture Prize 2020 and 2013, Sculpture By The Sea 2014 and 2009, Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize 2014 (Highly Commended).

In addition to commissioned sculptures for the Sydney QT Hotel and Melbourne Hotel Intercontinental, Morgan Shimeld exhibits his sculpture through two art galleries in Australia,  Otomys and Martin Browne Contemporary. His work has been acquired by Artbank, Australia.
