Bettina Willner

Bettina Willner’s practice considers the connection between material, form, nature, antiquity and memory within contemporary ceramics.

Organic structures, textural glazes and gestural mark-making are all characteristics of her sculptural pieces, and, in combination, produce objects that sit between sculpture, painting and drawing.

On a personal level, these works connect the artist to her past memories of Europe and Australia, especially of architectures found there, some human-made, others natural.

Focusing on the otherworldly and, at times, the hallucinatory experience of ossified sea structures or relics. These works imagine coral-like architecture as standing in for limbs, the body, time and memory.
