We are delighted to share that Dapeng Liu has been selected as a finalist for the Mosman Art Prize, one of the most prestigious painting awards in the country.
Established in 1947, the Mosman Art Prize is Australia's oldest local government art award, a $70,000 acquisitive prize drawing hundreds of entries each year from established and emerging painters across the country.
Dapeng Liu's finalist work, Somewhere Else, began not with direct observation but a fleeting encounter - a moment of sunset light filtering through roadside trees on Old Northern Road, Dural, gone within seconds. Photographs of the scene couldn't hold what he felt, so the painting instead reaches for the memory of that light through colour, gesture and spatial ambiguity, sitting with his broader interest in the tension between human order and the quiet persistence of nature.
The 2026 finalists will be exhibited at Mosman Art Gallery, opening with a preview event on Thursday 20 August 2026.
